I'm a big believer that one of the most important factors in choosing a wedding videographer, along with style and cost, should be who you get along with best. After all, you will be spending a pretty large chunk of one of the most important days of your life with them! With that in mind, I'd like to introduce myself;
I was born in the North West of England, before moving to the South West with my parents and two siblings. Growing up, I remember my Dad following my brother, sister and I around with a giant Panasonic video camera capturing holidays, birthdays and christmases - it's clear this is where my passion for video came from. Fast forward to today and I'm doing the exact same thing with my own family (but with a Panasonic arguably five-times smaller!).
Film and photography have been my two main passions for many years, and I decided to turn them in to a profession when I set up an aerial video and photo business to capture content for businesses, as well as carrying out surveys and 3D mapping from the air. Following this, I decided to take the plunge in to the world of weddings after a negative experience at my own. I was hooked after the very first wedding and I've not looked back since.
In my personal life, I'm married to my best friend, Danielle, and together we have a three-year-old son and seven-year-old boxer dog. Together they're the perfect mischievous pair and certainly keep us on our toes!
I have five babies; my son, my dog, camera 1, camera 2 and camera 3.
(I share musical talents with neither)
Rice Krispies Squares always come with me on a shoot for that little boost.
Music is life - in 2023 I listened to over 140,000 minutes on Spotify.
I share a birthday with both Ray Charles & Bruce Springsteen
My favourite part of a wedding day is the party.
I may throw shapes.
(Yes, I am a grown man)
You'll often hear people in the industry say that "gear isn't everything", and while that does hold some truth, the gear a videographer uses should be something you consider before decided who you want to capture your day.
I use three high-end cameras to ensure multiple angles during the ceremony, speeches and first dance. Not only does this give your films a nice variation, it also allows your photographer to have free-roam during these moments - if they want to wander in front of one of the cameras to get a better angle for your photographs, that's no problem as I'll have a shot from one of the other two cameras. Each camera records to two individual SD cards to significantly reduce the risk of lost files due to a corrupt card, and the footage is backed-up to three different locations as soon as I return home.
Just as important as your footage is the audio. I will spend hours (literally) searching through extensive libraries of fully licensed music to ensure the soundtracks used match the vibe of your day. Microphones placed on those speaking during the key moments will capture clean speech, some of which may be used in your short film. The audio captured during the ceremony and speeches will ensure you can hear every word as though you were sat next to the person on the day, rather than at the back of the room. On that note; if you ask your potential videographer one question before booking, make sure it's about audio recording!
